Sherene Melania trained with San Francisco Ballet and Kirov Ballet Academy in Washington DC and had the distinction to perform with both companies in principal youth roles. At 16, she represented the USA as a participant in the Prix de Lausanne International Junior Ballet Competition in 2000. Following the competition, she was invited to study ballet at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory (the only American with this honor) and concurrently, became a ballet apprentice under the tutelage of Gabriella Komleva, Ballet Mistress of the Kirov, Mariinsky Theatre. Sherene was awarded a certificate from the prestigious Conservatory for Ballet Direction Specialty and Choreography. While in Russia, she performed with artists of the Kirov Ballet in private performances. In 2005, Sherene completed a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in Performing Arts and Social Justice and received the Dean's Medal for Excellence in the Arts, University of San Francisco's highest academic honor. While at USF she performed for His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Sherene's grandparents are from Iran and sparked her interest in Persian dance and for the past two years, she performs as a Principal Artist with Ballet Afsaneh. Sherene is also the Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of Presidio Dance Theatre, a ballet-based international dance company of 50 young artists who presents a winter and spring season at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House and along the West Coast of California.
